Why did you go down the franchise route? And why did you choose Kumon franchise?
I like the support and backup that you have from a franchise company.
I chose Kumon because I love children, I like Maths, I enjoyed running my own business, I like flexible work hours and I enjoy being financially independent.

What did you do before taking up your Kumon franchise?
I was a teacher.

How did you raise the finance?
My husband provided the finances for my first centre.

What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?
We receive training in running a centre, as well as on the materials that are used. Ongoing training at Kumon is good. I have travelled the world to conferences! I have been a Kumon Franchisee for almost 20 years now, and I am still learning from our Head Office.

What is a typical day for you as a franchisee?
Work, work ,work! I start with communication to parents and admin in the morning. Admin includes preparing work for the students for the afternoon, keeping records, doing goal setting, etc. In the afternoons students attend classes and then our focus is on the children.

What challenges have you faced?
Time management, staff management, presenting in front of people at Conferences and also prize giving’s for students.

Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?
It is a different kind of work to teaching. You have your own business, so you can plan your time and activities to suit yourself. The work with the children is in the afternoons. I must say it is very rewarding!

What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their first franchise?
Go for it. It’s very fulfilling. Kumon let’s everyone reach his/her potential; students, staff but also the franchisee! Satisfaction levels are very high at Kumon. Working with and developing student is great! They can change from weak students to become top performers. How rewarding is that!

What are your plans for the future?
Why change if it works? If all goes well, I will still be a Kumon Franchisee for many years to come.

Would you do it again?
For sure!! I am enjoying it and am still very motivated! There are still things I feel I can improve on and learn more about. As Kumon gives you the opportunity to work with people, there is always something you can improve on.
